Emmy Hackathon 2026
You have until 23:59 AoE on Tuesday, October 27 to build the part of a GPU compiler that generates PTX, working with Emmy, our open-source ML compiler. You don't need a GPU of your own, because we run and test your code on ours.

How it works
01
Get the repository
Clone the task repository. It has the problem set, the tooling and the runner address, so you can test your PTX on our GPUs from the first minute.
02
Build your compiler
Write the part of the compiler that generates PTX, in Python, and run it against the open problems as often as you like. Ask questions on Discord.
03
Submit by October 27
Send us the link to your public code repository and a 3 to 5 minute video before 23:59 AoE on Tuesday, October 27. You can submit again until then, and we review your latest entry.
What to build
Implement the component of a GPU compiler that generates PTX, the assembly-level language for NVIDIA GPUs. Your compiler takes Emmy's Kernel IR and emits PTX directly, and it runs as python compile.py kernel.ir.json > out.ptx. The repository has 15 open problems in five categories, from pointwise operations to attention-like kernels, and the minimum goal is passing the first two. Entries are evaluated against a hidden set of problems of the same kinds, so the compiler has to generalize.
The repository holds the full task, the problem set and submit.py, which sends your PTX to our runner and reports a pass, a wrong result or the exact ptxas error. No GPU of your own needed.
Rules
- Open worldwide to anyone aged 18 or older, solo or in a team of up to three. A team submits once and lists every member with name and email.
- A submission is a public git repository, on GitHub, GitLab, Codeberg, sourcehut or a host of your own, and a video of 3 to 5 minutes in which you walk through your project in your own voice. YouTube, Vimeo, PeerTube and Google Drive links work, shared so that anyone with the link can watch.
- AI coding assistants are allowed. Your video has to show that you understand how your compiler works, and an entry where the understanding seems to have been handed to an AI isn't eligible for a prize.
- You can submit again until the deadline. We review your latest entry.
- The task repository explains how compilers are evaluated. We announce the winners two to three weeks after the deadline.
Open until 23:59 AoE on October 27. You can submit again until then.
Resources
Three references worth keeping open while you build.
- PTX ISA reference
This is NVIDIA's instruction-by-instruction reference for the language you'll generate.
- CUDA C++ Programming Guide
It explains how NVIDIA GPUs organize threads, warps and shared memory.
- Emmy on GitHub
The task builds on Emmy, and its source is open.
